J.HONK - timeless pop & jazz – hits

J.Honk was born 1957 in Linz, Upper Austria. For the past 30 years, he’s been a resident of Vienna, Europe’s musical metropolis. He is, without a doubt, one of the longest-standing and most successful Austrian pop and jazz musicians, songwriters and producers.

As a guitar and keyboards virtuoso, he is at home in both, classical and popular music. His songs are catchy and melodious, with a jazzy touch, immediately bringing to mind the timeless 60s sound of The Beatles and Burt Bacharach. In the early 80s he created his own inimitable sound mix of pop, jazz and latin rock elements with the legendary live-band J.HONK & THE FUNKPLANET.

His first vinyl singles in the late 80s, ‘Space me to the stars’ and ‘Lovedancer’ (both instrumentals) hit the charts on Austrian’s ORF/Ö3 and are popular airplay hits on many radio stations worldwide (Tokyo FM, NY Radio, etc).

Together with Andy Bartosh, he founded the HIP-HONK INSTRUMENTAL PROJECT in 1993. By 1998, he’d released three mini-albums (‘Sunrider’, ‘Moonrider’ and ‘Stardance’) under his own label HONK RECORDS. Again these were, and still are, popular airplay hits on numerous radio stations.

1996 he was contracted by WARNER/CHAPPEL Austria for the classic rock album ‘Live at the garage’ (THE HONK ROCK PROJECT), yet another milestone production. The very same year, ‘Highway of fame’ was featured no less than 930 times on the Austria’s English language BLUE DANUBE RADIO. At the same time, the live-band was hugely successful.

In 2006 the acclaimed ‘J.HONK – The definitive collection’, a compilation of his most popular instrumental hits, was released.

2010 he produced the alternative-underground-chill-out jazz CD ‘Cosmic funk’.

Currently J.HONK is working on a new album.
